Hot  Summer 2010

Many of us have been trying to escape from oppressive heat and waves of toxic smog and acrid smoke, from hurricanes that hit Russia after deadly heat wave this summer. I hope you were lucky and those climate calamities didn’t affect either you or your near and dear.
But you can’t escape from the fact that we are witnessing the troubling signs of climate change.

No doubt many of you will start this academic year with discussing these environmental disasters. Here are some ideas for you:
http://ypte.org.uk/files/coned-weather.pdf  here there is lots of info for smaller kids;
at the link
http://live-the-solution.com/mindmaps/  you can find various mind maps about global warming and related issues for teenagers;
if your students are interested in a serious academic talk, go to
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/08/14/pielke-sr-on-heat-wave-in-russia/

The summer was real hot with lots of events; we will try to highlight the major news in this Umbrella Newsletter.
Happy New Academic Year!

Elena and Natasha
