|
Project “Bringing English Teachers Together to Promote Tolerance in the Language Classroom” has come to other regions. Teachers from Moscow and Syktyvkar (the Komi Republic) got interested and expressed their desire to participate in the project.
More than 250 textbooks with EGE (State Exam) preparation materials were published, most of them already distributed among high school teachers of English. The tests in EGE format contain reading and listening comprehension, vocabulary and grammar, writing and speaking activities covering the topics of stereotypes, tolerance, cultural and language diversity.
In November and early December Tula English Language Teachers Association (TUELTA) organized teacher-training seminar and workshop for its members, where issues of teaching tolerance were discussed. The events took place in Tula State Pedagogical University ‘Lev Tolstoy’. All the participants received methodological materials for teaching tolerance in the language classroom. For example, at web tools workshop teachers learned how to create their own tasks using ESL video, voicethread and wallwisher and tried their hand at making tasks for International Tolerance Day. The materials of the workshop can be found at http://tspu.wikispaces.com/
Teachers from all over Russia are encouraged to participate to develop materials for teaching tolerance in the language classroom or conducting tolerance lessons. The textbook “State Exam: Preparation through Teaching Tolerance” can be found at http://resourcecenter-uk.narod.ru/p5.htm
